Dear Internet,
It
has been some time. How are you? I hear you have been getting a little wide in
the bandwidth. How are the folks,
Telephone and Telegraph? I hear grandpa
Mail has been forced to cut down to five days of work. Perhaps this correspondence might increase
his business, but I seriously doubt it will change much.
I
must detail the reason that I am contacting you. I have come to a decision concerning the
volume of material that I have collected through the years. These items have been acquired from yard
sales and second hand shops, obtained through impulse splurges and others you
yourself have helped me attain. The
amount of unwatched movies, unread books, unplayed games, and music that has
yet to be listened has reached a vast volume that I must address. To address this situation, I have created a
set of rules for an experiment that aims to wade through the deluge of
material. The following are the rules
for said experiment.
1. All
media is to be categorized into the four categories of TV/Movie, Game, Music,
and Book.
2. An
index card is to be made for each item with the following details of
information.
Title:
Media
Format: (TV/Movies etc.)
Completed:
(Yes/No)
To
What Extant: (This line is meant more for games than the other medias.)
Rating:
(A 1-5 rating shall be assigned as follows
5-
Very good and highly recommendable
4-
Good but lacking or flawed in some way but still enjoyable
3-
Average or "Meh"
2-
Bad or not worth the time
1-
Horrible, worth remembering only to prevent others from suffering)
3. All
completed media is to be alphabetized into the four categories, while those not
completed are to be separated.
4. The uncompleted pile is to be shuffled and referred
to as the Backlog.
5. Each
day, five hours at least shall be devoted to at least one item's completion.
6. If
the item is not completed within one day, it shall be rolled over to the next
day and shall continue rolling over until its completion.
7. After
each day's viewing, I shall promptly report my findings here to you in a manner
beyond that of a simple synopsis or summary.
8. Days
considered to be work days are Monday through Friday.
9. In
the case of sequels and their like, the original material must be viewed
first. If the original has not been
viewed, it shall be viewed first and its note card shall be removed from the Backlog
first and the Backlog shall then be reshuffled.
10. In
the cases where more material is to be discovered or obtained, the material is
to be cataloged and if found to be unviewed shall be shuffled into the Backlog.
And there you have it, Internet. These are the rules that I must follow
through for this experiment. These
coming weeks shall be interesting to say the least, and I hope both you and I
will enjoy it. Although, I must admit
that I am slightly worried that it will be my sanity that what will be
experimented upon. I will continue this correspondence
with you for as long as the Backlog exists or I am in able to physically write
to you. I allow this same exception to
you, Internet. For I know there are
sometimes that you are not able to contact me as well. Perhaps there will be a time when the rules
will need amending, but that will come in due time I am sure, but we are not
there yet. Until then, let us see where
this takes us.
Yours
in digital,
BeepBoop
